Cycling and eating fries for a better environment
The fact that the climate has changed considerably over the past fifty years is something that today's grandparents know all too well. To make a statement, a number of these concerned grandparents are therefore cycling from The Hague to Groningen in four days this week. They are not doing this for themselves, but to show that they are concerned about the world in which their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are growing up. Waarborg supports such initiatives and has therefore arranged a warm welcome at the finish in Groningen. A number of our colleagues are also cycling along in this cycling tour for sustainable energy supplies.
More action
With the action 'Grandparents for the Climate', organizer Urgenda wants to get the theme of climate change on the agenda. According to the organization, the climate and energy theme should be given the highest priority for all political parties. During the route - which runs from The Hague, via Leiden, Weesp, Almere and Lelystad to Groningen - the group visits various sustainability initiatives.
The bike tour
The bike tour started today – on Sustainable Tuesday – and will last four days in total. Around 70 to 80 kilometres will be covered each day. Participants can cycle the entire tour, but can also choose to cycle one or more stages. Waarborg will cycle along on the last day. The group will then start in Beilen and cycle via Assen and Haren to the Mediacentrale, where Piet's organic fries will be ready.
In addition to a nice portion of organic fries, the cyclists will be offered a healthy smoothie by the ladies of WAAR. This way, they can finish the last part of the bike ride full of energy!
